Frequently asked questions
- How much should I charge for dog training?
- It depends on your market, the type of service and your experience. As a 2026 guide, private 1:1 sessions commonly run about $75–$150 in the US (and similar in AUD/NZD), £40–£90 in the UK, and CA$70–$140 in Canada. Group class courses, board & train and puppy classes price differently again — use the calculator above to get a range for your service and market.
- Should I charge per session or sell packages?
- Most trainers do better selling packages or courses rather than one-off sessions: it improves cash flow, commits the client to the full programme and gets better results for the dog. Price the package on the outcome, not just the hours.
- How do I raise my prices without losing clients?
- Raise prices for new clients first, give existing clients notice, and lead with the value and results rather than the number. Specialising (reactivity, gundog, service-dog work) lets you charge well above general obedience.
- Are these numbers exact?
- No — they are typical market ranges to anchor your decision, not a quote. Your own pricing should reflect your costs, demand in your area, your specialism and the results you deliver.
